Preston 49ao
Lancaster 52-2
Northern Premier League Division Two
Lancaster 2nd XI returned to winning ways with a thumping 8 wicket win at home to Preston.
Stand-in skipper Danny Welbourne bowled first and Preston struggled to cope. The new ball pairing of Steven Armstrong and Nathan Baxter made early breakthroughs.
Armstrong picked up two early scalps before Nathan Baxter got in on the act to remove opener Mustafa Durrani caught behind.
Youngster Reuben Orr had another good day behind the stumps taking four catches but it was debutant Elliot Mason who had a day to remember.
First change Mason tore through the Preston middle-order – his 6 for 13 including four wickets in four deliveries as Preston crumbled from 21 for 3 to 26 for 7.
Only Mohsin Patel offered resistance – his 26 being the mainstay of the Preston innings.
With only 50 required for victory Lancaster suffered early wobbles as Welbourne and James Davies were removed cheaply to leave the hosts 9 for 2.
But some sensible play from Sam Reddick (37*) and Reuben Orr (6*) eased any Lancaster jitters to hand the seconds their second win of the season.
