Minus Wellers, the 2s rounded off their late season recovery with an impressive victory at Lodge Quarry. In what was Carnforth's final outing in the Northern League, a solid all round performance from Tom Williamson, Phil Sparrow in his final game, and all round bowling and in the field meant 15 points.
Carnforth Inserted Lancaster, and they got of to a steady start, with Twill (49) and young Lewis McGinley (25) building a steady but solid half century opening stand. Tom Burrow carried on building a platform following Lewis' exit before Dakshina De Silva, Spadge and the rest of the batsman chipped in and sacrificed their wickets looking for quick runs, as the visitors reached 165.
Carnforth's batting got off to a shaky start as Steven Armstrong and Spadge made early breakthroughs. Phil Waite offered some resistance along with Neil Dugdale but the Lancaster attack continued to pick up regular wickets. Rik Ghosh stood in as keeper taking the stumping of Dugdale for 37 off Williamson after Spadge had ripped out numbers 2, 3 and 4. Callum East picked up 2 for 24 to mop up the tail, before Twill ended the final niggling partnership to leave the 2nds firmly off the bottom of the table. It sums up what has been a remarkable escape from the foot of the table from both teams in the latter stages of the season, and offers a good platform for next year.
