Moffat 6-for brings home 12 English

A fine display of left arm seam bowling from Liam Moffat gave Lancaster their second win in 2 weeks. His 6 for 33 swept away Kendal's top and lower order to pave the way for sub-professional Ashar Zaidi's fine 64 in chasing down the hosts' 139.

The day got off to the best possible start for Lancaster as Moffat uprooted Darren Moore's off stump second ball. Three balls later Kendal Professional Alex Doolan followed Moore to the pavilion, nicking to a diving Charlie Swarbrick behind the stumps to leave Kendal 2 for 2. Despite these early losses, Kendal continued to play their shots with Iain Perrieman finding Jack White's edge attempting a big drive.

Former Lancaster opener Ryan Nelson spared Kendal's top order blushes as he and veteran Terry Hunte looked to rebuild the innings. Ben Simm replaced Moffat and found success from his very first ball as Hunte obliged to drive a full toss straight to a grateful Jamie Heywood at cover. Kendal continued to lose wickets with Braithwaite beaten for pace by Perrieman before Baker was needlessly run out attempting an ambitious bye.

At 74 for 6, Nick Lewthwaite's entrance signaled a change in momentum. Playing some classy cover drives combined with some more agricultural strokeplay, his 42 looked to have placed the hosts in a handy position for a late innings charge. The return of Moffat put pay to any of those plans however, as when Nelson was castled one short of a deserved 50 trying to work a straight delivery to leg the end came quickly. When Lewthwaite departed, Moffat bowled straight and wrapped up the tail to leave the visitors chasing 140 to win.

Lancaster's batting form has been patchy thus far and 139 wouldn't prove to be an easy chase. Openers Charlie Swarbrick and Alex Metcalfe got off to a slow but steady start with Swarbrick riding some early luck in picking up the odd boundary. However, when Kendal skipper Chris Miller replaced Jack White, he immediately removed Metcalfe padding up to a straight one for 5.

From 27 for none Lancaster slumped to 44-5. Jamie Heywood fell in unfortunate fashion as Nick Lewthwaite got a finger-end on a Swarbrick straight drive and was run out at the non-striker's end. Swarbrick, meanwhile, couldn't capitalise on his start and was clean bowled by Lewthwaite for 21. It got worse for the visitors when Iain Perrieman slapped a full toss to Stu Parkin at mid-on and Kieran Moffat was trapped in front without troubling the scorers. Sub-pro Ashar Zaidi dug in during the middle overs with veteran Danny Welbourne as both remained positive despite the situation. Both also rode their luck as Welbourne was bowled by White off a no-ball while Zaidi had begun his walk off having not noticed his miscued drive had been dropped by Moore at cover.

Welbourne finally fell for an important 18 off 62 balls, but there was still plenty of work to be done. Young Joe Atkinson entered and was the perfect foil for Zaidi as both picked the gaps and found the boundary with increasing regularity. Zaidi continued past his 50 before he became Miller's 3rd wicket of the afternoon top edging a pull to deep mid-wicket. He had done his job, however, as Simm and Atkinson knocked off the final few runs to see Lancaster to a three wicket victory.
